Install and configure the TrainMeUK SOP Recorder Chrome Extension

What is the SOP Recorder?

The TrainMeUK SOP Recorder is a Chrome browser extension that records your interactions with web pages and automatically generates step-by-step Guides. As you click, navigate, and fill in forms, the extension captures screenshots and creates descriptive steps for each action.

This is the fastest way to create Guides for any web-based procedure, as it eliminates the need to manually take screenshots and write step descriptions.

Installation

Get the Extension

Your organisation administrator will provide you with the extension. It can be installed from:

  • Chrome Web Store - Search for "TrainMeUK SOP Recorder"
  • Direct link - Your administrator may share an installation link
  • Managed deployment - Your IT team may push the extension to your browser automatically

Pin the Extension

  1. After installation, click the puzzle piece icon in the Chrome toolbar (Extensions menu)
  2. Find TrainMeUK SOP Recorder in the list
  3. Click the pin icon to keep it visible in your toolbar

Tip

Pinning the extension makes it easy to start and stop recordings with a single click.

Open the Extension

Click the TrainMeUK SOP Recorder icon in your Chrome toolbar. The extension popup will open showing a "Connect to TrainMeUK" button.

Connecting Your Account

Start Authentication

  1. Click the Connect to TrainMeUK button in the extension popup
  2. A new browser window opens with the TrainMeUK login page

Sign In

  1. Enter your email address and password
  2. Complete any multi-factor authentication if prompted
  3. The system verifies your account has permission to create Guides

Authorise the Extension

  1. Review the permissions the extension is requesting
  2. Click Authorise to grant the extension access
  3. The authentication window closes automatically
  4. The extension popup now shows your connected account

Tip

The extension uses secure OAuth authentication. Your password is never stored in the extension - only a secure token that can be revoked at any time.

Troubleshooting

Extension not appearing in toolbar?

Click the puzzle piece icon in Chrome's toolbar to view all extensions. If the extension is not listed, try reinstalling it or check with your IT administrator.

Authentication window not opening?

Ensure pop-ups are not blocked for the TrainMeUK domain. Check your browser's pop-up blocker settings and add an exception if needed.

Connection failed or timed out?

Verify you have an active internet connection and that your TrainMeUK account has Admin or Manager permissions. Try clicking "Connect to TrainMeUK" again.

Token expired?

Authentication tokens refresh automatically. If you see an authentication error, click "Reconnect" in the extension popup to sign in again.
