Course Surveys
Configure enhanced course surveys, mandatory feedback, and advanced survey options
Overview
Enhanced course surveys collect structured feedback when learners finish e-learning. The default Strategic template asks three behaviour-focused questions, including a 1–10 confidence rating. Responses feed into the Course Surveys tab on this page and into Admin → Reports → Course Survey.
From this tab you can:
- Turn enhanced surveys on or off tenant-wide
- Require survey completion before a course can be marked complete
- Control whether learners can skip optional questions
- See total responses, average confidence, and recent submissions
Where to find it
- Log in as an admin with permission to manage system settings
- Go to Admin → System Settings
- Select the Course Surveys tab
If you don't see Course Surveys
The tab is feature-gated. It appears only when all of the following are true:
- Your tenant has the enhancedSurveys feature (typically Pro, Enterprise, or Education plans)
- Your admin account has canManageSystemSettings permission
- Enhanced Surveys has not been turned off on this tab (when disabled, learners no longer see surveys and the Course Survey report section is hidden)
If the tab is missing and you expect it, contact TrainMeUK support to confirm your plan includes enhanced surveys.
Basic Settings
The Basic Settings card on the left controls whether surveys appear and how strictly learners must complete them. Changes save automatically — there is no separate Save button for toggles.
Enhanced Surveys
The Enhanced Surveys toggle is the master switch. When on, learners see the post-completion survey flow after finishing eligible courses. When off, no survey is shown and existing statistics remain visible for reference.
Mandatory Surveys
When Mandatory Surveys is on, learners must submit the survey before the course can be completed. This toggle is disabled while Enhanced Surveys is off.
Tip
Allow Skip
Allow Skip lets learners skip individual optional survey questions. It is disabled when surveys are mandatory (mandatory mode requires full submission).
| Setting combination | Learner experience |
|---|---|
| Enhanced on, Mandatory off, Allow Skip on | Survey shown; optional questions can be skipped |
| Enhanced on, Mandatory off, Allow Skip off | Survey shown; all questions required unless marked optional in the flow |
| Enhanced on, Mandatory on | Survey required to finish; Allow Skip toggle disabled |
| Enhanced off | No survey shown; other toggles greyed out |
Advanced Options
The Advanced Options card lets you fine-tune the default survey template, confidence slider, and gamification reward. These settings apply tenant-wide to new survey sessions.
Note
Default Template
Choose the default survey template for new courses:
| Template | Description |
|---|---|
| Strategic | 3 questions — behaviour focused (default) |
| Detailed | 5+ questions — comprehensive feedback |
| Quick | 2 questions — minimal |
Confidence Slider
The Confidence Slider toggle controls whether learners see the 1–10 confidence scale (question 2 in the Strategic template). When shown, learners rate how confident they feel applying what they learned.
Gamification Points
Gamification Points sets how many points are awarded for completing a survey (0–100). Points feed into your organisation's gamification totals configured on the General tab.
Usage Statistics and recent responses
The right-hand column gives you a quick health check without opening Reports.
Usage Statistics
- Total Responses — number of submitted surveys
- Avg Confidence — mean confidence score out of 10
- Surveys Active / Surveys Disabled — reflects the Enhanced Surveys toggle
Recent Responses
Lists the latest submissions with learner name, course, confidence score (colour-coded), and date. Empty state appears until the first response is recorded.
Current Configuration
A read-only summary of status, completion mode (Mandatory / Optional), template, confidence slider visibility, skip option, and points reward — useful for audits and screenshots.
What learners see
With the default Strategic template, learners answer three questions after course completion:
1. Behaviour change
"What is one thing you will do differently as a result of this course?" (required text)
2. Confidence
"How confident do you feel applying what you've learned in your role?" (1–10 slider, when enabled)
3. Missing support
"Was anything missing that would help you apply this training on the job?" (optional text)
Tip
Viewing survey analytics in Reports
- Go to Admin → Reports
- Open the Course Survey section (visible when enhanced surveys are enabled)
- Filter by timeframe and course to compare confidence and response trends
For broader exports including compliance and certificate data, see Exporting Reports.
Troubleshooting
Learners not seeing a survey
- Confirm Enhanced Surveys is on in Basic Settings
- Confirm your plan includes the enhancedSurveys feature
- Surveys appear at course completion — not mid-course
Learner stuck on completion screen
- Check if Mandatory Surveys is enabled — they must submit the survey first
- If Allow Skip is off, all required questions must be answered
No data in Usage Statistics
- Statistics populate after the first learner submits a survey
- Ensure at least one course has been completed with surveys enabled
