When to Use Learner Verify for Identity Checks

Decide when identity verification and Approvals review are worth enabling for a course

The decision

Note

Learner Verify strengthens confidence that the assigned learner completed the training themselves. Failed or unclear checks land in Approvals for a human decision.

The trade-off is friction: learners need a camera, consent, and sometimes a wait for review. Enable it where that cost is justified — not as a default on every e-learning module.

Choose A when / Choose B when

ChooseWhen
Enable Learner Verify on the courseHigh-stakes or regulated topics; auditors ask who really completed; risk of someone else finishing for the learner
Leave Verify offLow-risk awareness courses, short refreshers, or when you cannot staff an Approvals queue
Verify + clear Approvals ownershipYou enable Verify and nominate who reviews Approvals (admins / managers with access) so learners are not stuck

Tip

Learner Verify is not a substitute for assignment, due dates, or mandatory flags. It sits on top of a course that people are already required to complete.

Common mistakes

  • Turning Verify on for every catalog course and overwhelming Approvals
  • Enabling Verify without anyone monitoring Approvals — learners wait indefinitely
  • Expecting Verify alone to prove competence — content quality and assessment still matter

Recommended setup

  1. Pick a short list of high-stakes courses (not the whole catalog)
  2. Follow Learner Verify to enable the feature and per-course requirement
  3. Confirm who opens Approvals (and optionally Admin Approvals)
  4. Pilot on one course, then expand
